ARTICLE 1. BUILDING CODE

The BOCA National Building Code, Edition of 1990, a standard for building as recommended by the Building Officials and Code Administrators International, Inc., 4051 W. Flossmoor Rd., Country Club Hills, Illinois 60478-5795, the same being a standard code for the control of buildings and structures and available in book or pamphlet form, shall be and is hereby incorporated by reference thereto. The City shall keep at least three (3) copies of the Standard Code incorporated by reference in this Article on file in the office of the City and available for inspection by the public at all reasonable business hours.

There is hereby established the office of the City Building Inspector. The Building Inspector shall have the following powers and duties and responsibilities:

(a)   The inspector shall perform all duties and functions required in the administration and enforcement of the provisions of this chapter.

(b)   The Building Inspector shall receive for his services such compensation as the Governing Body shall from time to time determine by resolution.

(c)   The Mayor, with the consent of the Governing Body shall appoint a Building Inspector and may appoint assistant inspectors when necessary. The Building Inspector shall not engage in the business of a contractor in any of the fields regulated by the Code of the City, either directly or indirectly, in the City and shall have no financial interest in any concern engaged in any such business while holding the office of inspector. The Building Inspector shall keep complete records of all permits issued, certificates issued, licenses issued, inspections made and all other official work performed under the provisions of this chapter.
